On Last week’s show we took a look at an American icon in Tarzan. This week we continue that trend with the Lone Ranger, truly an American icon. I know that I don’t need to tell you who The Lone Ranger is. However, what we will discuss is the origins of series and shed some light on the inspiration for the character. My goal is to give you some new information one of America’s favorite stories.Bass Reeves was the inspiration for the Lone Ranger.

I have picked an episode from the old time radio program, The Lone Ranger. The series ran from 1933 to 1954. 21 years of episodes in all and surprisingly most of which have survived. Our story is from the late 30’s so, the characters and actors are well established. In this episode Tonto and The Lone Ranger have to convince a post commander to deal with a local outlaw threat. The tale is called “The Murder of the Pony Express Rider” and it first aired on April 22, 1938.
