Program Note: Originally this podcast aired into parts over two days. This was an experiment that didn't work out and was never repeated. I combined them into one podcast on 1-24-18

PART ONE

While searching for a story this week I found an old-time radio series and its creator. Stories from the pen of Carlton E. Morse graced the airwaves for many years. He was a Louisiana-born producer and journalist best known for the radio serial One Man's Family, which debuted in 1932 and ran until 1959. It was one of the most popular radio soap operas of the time. He also was responsible for the radio serial Adventures by Morse, which told of the escapades of Captain Bart Friday and Skip Turner. The series ran for 52 episodes in 1944 and 1945.

What is a serial? Serials are series of radio programs that rely on a continuing plot that unfolds in a sequential episode-by-episode fashion. This makes it difficult to present these type of programs in a podcast environment. However, we are going to play one from start to finish in two episodes of Ron’s Amazing Stories. On this episode, we will have part one of the story.  Part two will be presented at a special Thursday podcast presentation. Those of you that have purchased the RAS app for Android or for the iPod, iPhone or IPad will find a bonus feature attached to this show.  You will be able to listen to the conclusion of the story immediately.

The name of our tale is A Coffin for the Lady.  It’s was presented starting March 18 and completed on April 1, 1944. It ran for three one-half hour shows. This is a fantastic story and one that I know you will enjoy. Captain Friday and Skip help a young female prisoner escape the clutches of evildoers. However, first, they must save themselves!

PART TWO

This is a special podcast being brought to you on a Thursday. This is the first time we have done this at Ron’s Amazing Stories and you may be asking yourself why. It is because the story that I have picked for this week. Adventures by Morse was an OTR series that ran using a serial type format. That meant the story spanned several episodes, hence the need to span two. If you like this format let us know. We may do it again with other serial formatted shows.
